Automotive Executive Search
Before You Define the Role
A greenfield launch, an unstable turnaround, and a mature high-volume plant may carry the same job title. They do not require the same executive. If you are planning an automotive leadership appointment, succession, or confidential replacement, the first conversation should determine what the operation actually requires before the market is approached.

What makes automotive executive search different from general manufacturing search?
Automotive combines compressed launch timelines, customer-specific quality systems, high-cost production interruption, complex supplier networks, and strong ownership cultures. Candidates must be assessed against the specific customer, plant stage, production process, and governance model, not only against automotive tenure.
How do you assess launch leadership?
I examine the candidate’s role across APQP, tooling, supplier readiness, PPAP, customer escalation, staffing, equipment commissioning, start of production, and volume ramp. The key question is not whether the candidate participated in a launch, but what they personally owned when the plan began to fail.
Can you recruit leaders for plants outside major cities?
Yes. Location is treated as a search condition from the beginning. Relocation, family impact, travel expectations, schooling, rotation, and long-term commitment are addressed before a candidate enters the process.
How do you assess quality leaders beyond IATF experience?
Certification knowledge is baseline. I assess whether the leader can stop a process, influence operations, challenge unrealistic customer commitments, communicate risk to senior leadership, and rebuild credibility after failure.
Do you support confidential replacement searches?
Yes. Searches involving an incumbent Plant Director, Quality VP, regional executive, or family-business leader can be structured with controlled market outreach, confidential assessment, and a defined succession plan.
How long does an automotive executive search take?
An initial qualified slate is typically developed within several weeks. Total appointment timing depends on location, specialization, confidentiality, client interview cadence, relocation, and candidate notice periods.
